At any given time, almost 7 million Americans suffer from chronic, non-healing wounds. Some come from  diabetes and heart related problems. other types include pressure sores and traumatic wounds (cuts from falls, etc.). Adventist Health's Wound Healing & Hyperbaric Medicine program uses the most up-to-date approaches to wound healing and keeps up with scientific advances in wound care. The wound center is a hospital-based outpatient service, located on the campus of Adventist Medical Center, in Professional Building 3.

The Center
Adventist Health's Wound Healing & Hyperbaric Medicine is a testing and treatment center for acute and chronic (new and ongoing) problem wounds as well as non-wound-related injuries such as carbon monoxide poisoning, decompression sickness (the "bends" that SCUBA divers can get), or skin breakdown due to radiation treatments.

Most patients are sent to the wound clinic from their physician's office, although patients can schedule their own visit. We ask patients to see their family physician to treat other health problems, since wound care visits are for wound care only. Patients coming to the wound clinic will be seen by the wound care team consisting of physicians and nurses.

The wound care team will review the patient's health history and may order tests such as blood tests, x-rays, etc. that will help find out why a wound is not healing. The wound care team, working with the patient, will identify steps that need to be taken to help the wound heal. These steps may be about eating habits, smoking, wound bandages, shoes, cushions, beds, and/or chairs. Hundreds of patients have healed their wounds by following these plans.
