The Passion to Service
Kathie Taylor has been practicing nursing for more than 40 years at Adventist Medical Center . She’s the nurse manager of the hospital’s Family Birth Place, a facility named as Portland’s only Five-Star Gynecologic Surgery unit.
“I choose my profession because it allows me to take care of others at the most critical moments of their life,” says Taylor. For the past four decades, she has followed her life-long dream of working in a challenging industry that allows her to nurture, heal and comfort. “I’ve had chances to use my skills in other industries, but my passion is nursing – I love what I do,” exclaims Taylor.
Taylor along with nearly 550 other Adventist Health nurses are being recognized this week for their dedication to service excellence in the Portland metro area during National Nurses Week. Physicians, employees and community are sharing their gratitude for nurses who advocate, lead and care for the thousands of patients who find hope and healing through Adventist Medical Center, the 30 Adventist Health Medical Group Clinics, as well as Homecare and Hospice services.
Nurses comprise the largest health care profession. Adventist Medical Center helps train hundreds of nurses from various nursing schools throughout the Portland area. It also houses the Walla Wall University School of Nursing on the hospital campus. Every year, National Nurses Week focuses attention on the diverse ways America's nurses work to save lives and to improve the health of individuals.
