Adventist Medical Center Awarded National Five-Star Community Value Rating

June 16, 2010

Adventist Medical Center (AMC) has once again received the Community Value Index® (CVI) Five-Star hospital award. For the fourth consecutive year, the Portland, Ore. hospital was recognized by Cleverley and Associates for its dedication to meeting the healthcare needs of the community in a financially responsible, efficient and effective manner.

“We are thrilled to once again have the hard work and dedication of our entire team acknowledged through the Community Value Index Five-Star hospital award,” said Tom Russell, CEO of Adventist Medical Center. “This award means a great deal to us as it recognizes critical elements of Adventist Medical Center’s mission, including providing the safest, high-quality, affordable care in the region.”

Cleverley and Associates created the CVI Five-Star hospital award to measure the value a hospital provides to its community. To identify those organizations worthy of recognition, Cleverley and Associates conducts an annual evaluation of nearly 3,000 hospitals nationwide. This evaluation is used for objective assessment and includes four key areas of evaluation:

  • Financial viability and plant reinvestment,
  • Hospital cost structure,
  • Hospital charge structure,
  • Hospital quality performance.

The CVI is considered to be the most comprehensive index dedicated to hospital assessment. Hospitals achieve a five-star rating based on achieving a top 20 percent ranking among all hospitals examined in the study.

“Adventist Medical Center takes pride in providing care that the Portland and Southwest Washington community can have faith in,” said Mark Perry, CFO for Adventist Medical Center. “Medical expertise, patient care and trust in the value of the services that we provide our patients is imperative to our success, but more importantly, it’s critical to ensuring that our community’s needs are taken care of in the best way possible.”

Cleverley and Associates is an independent, professional service organization specializing in core financial strength services for the healthcare industry. Each CVI criteria contains metrics that compare a hospital’s performance to an appropriate peer group. The combined performance in each area is the Community Value Index® score.
