October 31, 2013 (Roseville, Calif.) – Tom Russell, president and CEO of Adventist Medical Center - Portland has been named vice president of Population Health Innovations for Adventist Health, effective January 2014.
In this new role, Russell will help Adventist Health fulfill and pilot key strategies found in the 2012-2017 Strategic Plan. Key strategies developed and successfully piloted in the Northwest will be available for deployment in other Adventist Health markets. Specific strategies include: "Clinically Integrated Network," a high-risk senior care delivery model for Medicare risk arrangements, and employer health care based solutions for self-funded employers leveraging the successful Adventist Health “Engaged!” Health Plan developed in Portland.
In addition, Russell will direct an Adventist Health wellness collaborative to produce a branded wellness model for deployment within Portland and other Adventist Health markets. The collaborative will assimilate the current wellness competencies and align with multiple partners, including Loma Linda University Health and Cerner.
Russell transitions into the new role with more than 32 years of health care management experience. “Tom’s leadership has had a tremendous impact on delivery of mission-driven, value-based health care,” says Scott Reiner, executive vice president and COO of Adventist Health and board chairman for the Adventist Medical Center - Portland operations. “He will be instrumental in delivering our mission through the establishment of relationships and innovation.”
Russell assumed his current position in 2008, overseeing the network of Adventist Health services throughout the Portland metropolitan area and is chairman of the board for Adventist Health’s Tillamook Regional Medical Center on the Oregon coast. His leadership has been evident in the development of Adventist Health’s integrated network in the Northwest.
Adventist Health has initiated a national search to identify the right candidate to fill the role of president and CEO in the Portland market.
